Conditional endorsement

Restrictive endorsements may be contained in a letter or note that accompanies a check. With this restrictive endorsement, the check can only be deposited into the business bank account of “Emily Designs”. It can’t be cashed at a teller window, nor can it be deposited into any other account that doesn’t match the name “Emily Designs”. Restrictive Endorsement: Definition, Examples, Check, Cost

In the U.S., restrictive endorsements are governed by the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), which provides a framework for commercial transactions. UCC Article 3, which deals with negotiable instruments like checks, outlines the requirements for restrictive endorsements. These requirements include specifying the limitations of the endorsement, signing the endorsement, and including the name of the individual or entity to whom the instrument can be transferred. A restrictive endorsement includes not only the signature of the endorser but the words “For Deposit Only” and the bank account number or financial institution in which it is to be deposited.
